John is the VP, Washington DC Workplace Studio Leader at SmithGroup. He has served as principal on several prominent DC commercial projects, including 1700 New York Avenue, 901 K Street and L’Enfant Plaza. While he’s humble about his own accomplishments, John holds special admiration for "the dedication and perseverance" of a historical figure from his home state of Maine: Joshua Chamberlain, a Union Army general renowned for his leadership at the Battle of Gettysburg, who later served as the governor of Maine. Speaking of dedication and perseverance, John muses that, if time were no object, "One day I might actually be good at golf." Also on that free-time list: hiking and mountain biking the fjords, bays and mountains of New Zealand.
