Here are seven lively coliving spaces from around the world that will inspire you to give this revolutionary concept a try yourself!

Think back on the last 30 days — how many times did you work out of your home, cafe, or even a coworking space? If you’re like most Americans, you’ve probably done it at least a couple of times. According to a gallup poll, 43 percent of employees in America have worked remotely at times in 2016, up from 39 percent in 2012.

The concept of coworking has seen steady growth around the world since 2005 when the idea first took shape. Fast forward 14 years, and there are now more than 30,000 coworking spaces around the world, set to hit 50,000 by 2022 according to the latest coworking statistics.

So what’s next for coworking? Coliving of course. Coliving spaces offer many benefits, from affordable rent, a sense of community, to being able to immerse oneself with and learn from creative and highly talented people from all walks of life.

Here are seven lively coliving spaces from around the world that will inspire you to give this revolutionary concept a try yourself sometime soon.

Campfire Home

The Campfire Home is part of Campfire Collaborative Spaces, one of the biggest network of coworking spaces in Asia.

Situated in Hong Kong, Campfire is loved by digital workers for its affordability, lively atmosphere and access to a ton of resources that the coworking life demands. More specifically, members are given complete access to all the company’s shared workspaces and networking events across Hong Kong. This makes it all the more easier for remote workers to blend their work and social life together.

Campfire Home consists of single bedroom, double bedroom, a cafe and communal spaces.

CoHive

Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, CoHive coliving program is founded on four key principles: convenience, coziness, coworking and connections. The organization stays true to these beliefs by providing its members fully-furnished apartments where they can work from and also live in.

Besides housing, CoHive provides community centric amenities such as a gym, shared workspace, tennis court and a swimming pool. CoHive has gone as far as setting up a BBQ rooftop for its residents.

To encourage interaction and collaboration among its members, CoHive also has communal spaces. You can make new friends while chilling in the lounge or bond with fellow professionals by cooking or watching a movie together.

Perhaps the best part about joining the CoHive community is its affordability. The monthly rent of a little over $200 USD you pay includes utilities, Internet, water and parking.

Rent24

Rent24 is a global provider of coworking and coliving spaces. Established just five years ago, it now has 55 locations worldwide, including the UK, Serbia, Germany, Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, Israel and more recently, the US.

For many freelancers, entrepreneurs and startups, rent24 has become the perfect home away from home. Their well-furnished apartments even come with optional maid service and laundry service. The best part of course is living with like minded digital nomads and workers from all around the world.

Rent24 allows residents to stay for any length of time. Whether you want to book their standard room for a week or for several months, rent24 has you covered. Currently coliving is only offered in their Germany locations.

Unsettled

Unsettled is best described as a platform for global mobility, flexibility and exploration. This company uses an entirely different, but exciting way of uniting freelancers, developers, artists and other individuals who work remotely.

Essentially, Unsettled organizes retreats for like-minded individuals from all over the world. The locations for these retreats, which last 15 to 30 days, are handpicked by a research team at Unsettled. The organization then provides everything the individuals need for the retreat, ranging from private accommodation to the shared workspaces.

This retreat program is a perfect fit for any individual looking to meld their work, travel and social life together. Whether you want to work remotely in a stunning environment or simply want to test the digital nomad lifestyle, you can enroll for their retreat program.

Roam

Roam is yet another organization that’s helping location-independent workers live according to their interests and preferences.

Roam represents a network of coliving spaces that provides fluid leases. They allow their members to switch between international properties for weeks or months at a time. With locations in Miami, Tokyo, San Francisco, London and Bali, members are spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring different cultures.

Roam’s idea of accommodation lies somewhere between a hostel and an Airbnb. However, their offerings are more of the high-end type and spacious enough to support a large and diverse community of professionals.

These coliving spaces are fully furnished with sleeping areas, reliable Internet access and communal kitchens. In fact, every living space comes with a private bathroom and a queen or king-sized bed, plus free cleaning services.

Sun and Co.

Nestled in the historic town of Jávea in Spain, Sun and Co is the first coliving/coworking space in the Mediterranean Coast. Jávea is a small coastal town full of pristine beaches and rocky mountains worth exploring.

Members can choose between shared and private rooms. They also get access to several common areas, a BBQ terrace, cleaning services, communal supplies and free organic coffee.

Sun and Co. has become very popular with freelancers, solopreneurs, and digital nomads from all over the world. It provides not just a great environment to work and network, but an exciting destination in itself to soak in the rays and relax on the beaches.

Nomad House

Nomad House works in a fairly similar manner to Unsettled as an organizer of retreats for digital nomads.

If you happen to be on the road in an area where Nomad House has planned a retreat, you can get in touch and book a spot. Or, you could become a member and participate in any of the 13 retreats that are held in 10 countries across the world.

These retreats are an excellent way to network with developers, writers, entrepreneurs and designers. More importantly, Nomad House creates an ideal setting where you can think of new ideas, and nurture them. You get to work with experts in that specific niche to help you materialize the concept.

The Future of Remote Work

As the coworking craze sweeps the world, cities with strong real estate markets are embracing another similar trend that is coliving spaces. These shared living spaces give you freedom to work flex hours, collaborate with professionals at any time and save money all at the same time. It’s not just an evolution, but revolution to the concept of working together with strangers.
