She has always been a strong advocate for providing the best possible spaces for people to work – where aesthetics meet function and drive business success.

With NeoCon right around the corner, we’re excited to give you a sneak peek of  Davis’ innovative and expanded refresh of their classic Ginkgo piece.

The original leaf inspired Ginkgo seating line provided an elegant, sculptural solution for ancillary seating options. Working with the Jehs + Laub design studio, this year’s introduction re-imagines the line by refocusing on the structural shape of the successful original, bent plywood design. The resultant changes are in synch with the organic feel of the original pieces, but elegantly re-interpret them utilizing exposed welded steel rods to fabricate new barstools, chairs, lounge seating and tables – perfect for indoor and outdoor use. Surprisingly light in scale, this new twist on a classic piece is uniquely flexible while maintaining a distinctly sculptural aesthetic.

Tell us about the design inspiration.

Designers Jehs+Laub were tasked by Davis to evolve the Ginkgo family, their original group of seating. Initially introduced in 2011 to great success, the re-imagined Ginkgo Wire pieces update the look with new materials, colors, and options. The aesthetic builds on the scale and sculptural properties of the design which utilizes bent plywood to suggest the organic symmetry of the ginkgo leaf. The new Ginkgo Wire takes the concept further, substituting a structure of solid steel rods for the wood. The effect is light and ethereal yet constructed of a solid material.

What innovations in a choice of materials or fabrication are utilized in the manufacture of this new product?

Fabrication of Ginkgo Wire utilizes steel rods, the primer and powder coat finishes allow the use of the chairs and tables indoors and outdoors – thus increasing the options for designers to place them in any kind of setting. The material is sturdy enough to withstand the elements, yet light enough to create an open interpretation of the original Ginkgo design aesthetic. Introducing new, fun colors increases the flexibility in allowing designers to make a design statement with these pieces. The size and scale of the products will work in many configurations

Where do you think the installation of this product will be most useful?

Ginkgo Wire is designed to work in almost any conceivable setting. We think that there is an excellent potential to use in waiting areas, classrooms, casual meeting spaces, dining areas and café’s and in any outdoor setting.

A year from now what would be the most exciting thing you could think of that would find out about how the product has been accepted, specified and installed in projects?

We would love to see Ginkgo Wire have the same success as the original Ginkgo chair(s). Given the adaptability of the products to multiple settings and the many choices designers will have, we have every expectation that we will see this product on many new projects.

Does the product contribute to new ways of working?

Ginkgo Wire is an indoor/outdoor line that features chairs, lounge seating, barstools, and tables. Maintaining the distinctive “Ginkgo” style, this new line broadens horizons with new application options never available.  Given that workspace now encompasses many modes of working and spaces to work, we think it will fit in anywhere the designer chooses to create a unique and beautiful seating area. Ginkgo Wire collection can fill an entire space that features indoor and outdoor areas. The product can be used to create communal, or lounge areas with chairs, lounge seating, barstools, and tables that can work in any environment.

When will the product be available?

The product will be available in June 2018.
