Fuhu, the creator of nabi, gave the designers at Kamus + Keller one major directive when they set out to transform the company’s 17,500 square foot space: keep it simple and fun.

They expressed it by blending practical features like clean, modern workstations with whimsical flourishes: bold pops of lime green and red to reflect the brand’s colors, big wall graphics, and industrial-style ceilings.

We reached out to the team at Kamus + Keller to find out more.

What is the location’s proximity to public transportation and other amenities?

The company is in a very public transportation‐friendly area, with a Metro Station about a mile away. Los Angeles International Airport is only a few miles away, as are several beach/shoreline destinations (Marina del Rey, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach). El Segundo itself is a wildly up‐and‐coming location for commercial businesses, where there is high demand for creative office space.

What were the construction/hard costs per square foot?

$2.25 per square foot.

Is there a mobile work or work‐from‐home policy or are most of the employees there all day every day?

Employees work within the office space every day, weekends included.

What percentage of the space is unassigned?

Since the call center operation is always open, most workstations are open and unassigned.

How is the company’s brand reflected in the space?

Fuhu’s brand value is to “keep it simple and fun”, and that’s exactly what we did with their creative office, reflecting an innovative juxtaposition of the company’s buoyant company culture and aggressive business expansion. The operational spaces are a harmonious blend of the practical – clean, modern workstations and contemporary lighting – and the whimsical – bold pops of lime green and red brand colors, large‐scale inspirational wall graphics, concrete floors and exposed, industrial‐style ceilings.

What is the most unique feature about the new space?

Employees are present throughout the office 24/7, so creating an environment emphasizing health, home and comfort was of paramount importance. Cozy niche seating and warm wood accents encourage workplace relaxation; a modern gym allows staff to relieve stress and energize body and mind; the grand, contemporary kitchen and breakroom are consistently stocked with free food and drinks for busy employees, with ample seating and large‐screen televisions that help foster socialization and camaraderie.
