Faces: Meet Jim Williamson

Jim Williamson is Principal, Studio Director, and a practicing Interior Designer at Gensler in the Washington, DC, office. He is the incoming President Elect of the International Board of IIDA and has recently served as Development Chair and President of the IIDA Mid Atlantic Chapter.

Jim’s work has been instrumental in increasing industry participation and membership to strengthen our industry as a whole, and he’s even leveraged international chapters and alliances to share global Best Practices in design.

He understands how to take a complex process and simplify it into manageable steps. He also has extensive knowledge of alternative office concepts, designing for the mobile workforce. And his professional work is rooted in this personal commitment:

“I want to better define the value of interior design in our complex, performance-focused business environment.”

At Gensler, Jim co-chairs the firm’s Workplace Practice area and is responsible for guiding the practice area leadership in 8 regions and 34 offices towards, and he is a leader the firm-wide Client Relations Committee. His clients have included Ernst & Young, Discovery Communications, NASCAR, Associated Press, Ogilvy Public Relations, GSA and the US Department of State.

He also participates on the DLC – The Design Leadership Council is a collaboration of principals from various architecture and interior design firms throughout the DC Metro area who come together monthly with the shared goal of enhancing our practice, industry, services and to build mutual trust and friendship within the industry.
